Arboriculture (Tree Surgery)
Arboriculture is both an art and a science combining physical skills and modern technology using scientifically based methods to care for trees. Here at Wintec we provide innovative, interdisciplinary education that prepares students for careers in the Arboriculture Industries. Experienced staff will help you develop a unique range of skills and the ability to apply these skills in new situations in the professional world.
Horticulture
Waikato Institute of Technology provides leading training programmes in Amenity Horticulture. Being located in the Hamilton Gardens provides an outstanding practical teaching resource. Students also gain the added benefit of being able to work with Hamilton Gardens Professional staff.
Floristry
Using the medium of flowers and foliage, you can learn the artistic discipline of floristry from the award-winning tutors at Wintec. Located in the elegant surroundings at Hamilton Gardens, the Floristry Centre will teach you hands-on skills and give you practical experience right from the beginning! The theme gardens and rose gardens of the Hamilton Gardens serve as a living classroom.
Landscape Design
Wintec offers a purpose-built studio and classes at the world-famous Hamilton Gardens to start your career in Landscape Design or Landscape Installation. The theme of the Hamilton Gardens is the 'story of gardens', ranging from a traditional Herb Garden to an American Modernist Garden. But most importantly these gardens serve as living classroom examples. Students are able to become involved in projects involving the gardens.
In Landscaping there are two options: Landscape Design and Landscape Installation. Landscape Design involves the creative and practical design of landscaped areas, including Computer Aided Drafting. Landscape Installation involves the preparation, construction and maintenance of landscaped areas.
Science
The Science division offers a range of programmes. The three main programmes are the Bachelor of Technology, Diploma in Technology (Science), a qualification for science technicians and the Certificate in Technology. The Science division also teaches science to students of the Bachelor of Nursing and the Bachelor of Midwifery programmes, as well as physics and mathematics to engineering technician students.
Short courses are also offered in food science, specialised analytical chemistry, introductory science for nurses, applied occupational safety and health management, high performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.

Are you wanting to work with animals and train for an animal-related career? Our programmes place a strong emphasis on practical skills; therefore you will personally care for a wide range of animal species in Wintec's Animal House
Engineering
The BEng Tech is the first national degree jointly offered by the six leading metropolitan institutes of technology/polytechnics in the country. Wintec will be offering the degree with majors in civil, electrical and first year mechanical engineering.
Wintec has a long history of delivering the former New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (NZCE) programmes, and more recently the mechanical and civil engineering diplomas. These three programmes are well recognised by industry, and graduates are highly sought after.
