Pacific Youth Awards

Background

High-achieving young Pacific New Zealanders will be recognised for their outstanding contributions through the newly-created Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards.

These awards are designed to motivate, celebrate and inspire young Pacific people to reach their full potential. The three awards are:

  • The University of Auckland Award for Leadership
  • The Weta Award for Creativity
  • The Cogita Software Award for Inspiration

Eligibility

Young people are eligible to be nominated for the awards who:

  • are aged 17-24 years of age at the time applications are called for
  • are New Zealand residents of Pacific descent and can demonstrate that they are involved in the Pacific community
  • show integrity and have character references from two independent referees of appropriate standing (for example a minister, school teacher, youth worker) - please note that shortlisted nominees will be required to undertake a police check, their permission will be sought should this be required
  • have achieved significant success in one of the following areas (you can only nominate a person for one category):
    • leadership
    • creativity
    • inspiration

Value

The winner of the Creativity award, will receive a paid internship of up to one year at the award-winning WETA workshop in Wellington.

The winner of The University of Auckland Award for Leadership  will receive tuition fees to the value of $6,000 per annum for students accepted into one of the following University of Auckland study programmes:

  • 3 year undergraduate programme
  • 2 year Masters programme
  • 4 year PhD

The winner of the Cognita Software Award will receive an inspiring, educational trip to an overseas destination to the value of $5,000.  The trip and format will be agreed with the winner, COGITA and the Ministry and will contribute to the winner’s personal development as a leader in the Pacific community.

Applications close at 5.00pm on Monday 4th July
