Honorary Awards for Sports Stars, Entertainers and Business Quiet Achiever

Wintec (Waikato Institute of Technology) is to confer honorary degrees on two of New Zealand’s top entertainers, two international sporting stars and a Hamilton businessman, while a regional Mayor is to receive the Wintec Medal.

One of the world’s most celebrated cricketers, Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori, who was educated and lived in Hamilton until recently, is to be awarded an honorary Master of Science (Sport and Exercise). World class netballer Irene van Dyk will also receive an honorary Master of Science (Sport and Exercise) for her role in the Silver Ferns and the Waikato BOP Magic team.

Wintec chair Gordon Chesterman said Wintec is also conferring an honorary Master of Arts (Music) on entertainers the Topp Twins, Lynda and Jools Topp.

Hamilton businessman Bernie Crosby, founder and owner of Prolife Foods, will receive an honorary Bachelor of Business Studies.

Mayor of Otorohanga Dale Williams is to receive the Wintec Medal recognising his role with the task force for jobs and his involvement in seeking training for youth in the district and his contribution to the Otorohanga Trade Training Centre, a Wintec satellite campus.

Mr Chesterman said the honorary awards, which recognise outstanding and distinguished contributions, will be conferred during Wintec’s graduation ceremonies in April next year.
