Spark brings art to the city

The 13th Spark festival kicks off on August 15 and features a stunning selection of guest speakers from New Zealand, London, New York, Russia and Australia. Spark is once again free, and open to all.

Russian Lydia Kavina is the leading performing musician on the theremin – a fascinating instrument played without touch. Her musical career has spanned more than a thousand concerts and theatre, radio and television performances throughout the world as well as her work on the scores for The Machinist and Ed Wood.

Mary Mattingly (New York) will present her work that intersects performance, film, sculpture and photography. Her work revolves around the themes of politics and the environment. Her ambitious sculptures, combined with her mix of science, art and innovation will make her a must see at Spark.

Auckland based sculptor Regan Gentry is one of New Zealand’s most innovative artists. Gentry has multiple public artworks throughout New Zealand and is represented by the Wellington Sculpture Trust and Whitespace Contemporary Art in Auckland.

Spark is Wintec’s annual celebration of contemporary arts, media and design with international guests, workshops, exhibitions, forums and fringe events. Check out the full range of guest speakers and programme of events here.
