Wintec House wins at Property Council Awards

Wintec House has scooped its third award since it opened last year, this time winning gold at the recent Waikato Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards.

Mainzeal Construction’s renovation of Wintec House received a gold award in the Wintec Education Project category in the Commercial Projects section at the awards held in Hamilton in July.   There were 15 gold award winners from the Waikato region named on the night.  They will now be assessed alongside gold award winners from the other 13 regions of the competition to find the National Gold Reserve finalists to be announced in early September.  Silver awards in the Wintec Education Project category went to Foster Construction for the Te Wananga O Aotearoa Glenview campus development and Hawkins Construction for the redevelopment of Te Whaekura O Te Rau Aroha in Ngarua.

Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers attended the awards and said: “We’re thrilled that Wintec House has once again been recognised as an exceptional and unique facility in the Waikato region. I’d like to thank the Wintec Siteworx team, Mainzeal, Chow:Hill Architects, Micon and Aecom, whose dedication and hard work saw this immense project succeed.”

The award-winning building, which opened in September 2010, combines educational facilities, event spaces and commercial offices. Located on the northeast corner of the Wintec campus in Hamilton city, Wintec House mixes heritage building aspects with modern architecture. The two-storey building cost around $17 million to redevelop and took around 18 months to complete.

In June this year, Wintec House won the top award for excellence in both the Heritage and Adaptive Reuses and the Education and Arts award categories at the prestigious Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Awards for 2011.
