iPhone app creates vintage videos

Media Arts Moving Image graduate, Klas Eriksson has created a new iPhone application that records video footage and gives it a retro look.

iSupr8 is essentially a vintage video app for the iPhone. It allows users to shoot and import external footage and give it a retro feel. Users can also share their videos directly from the app via Facebook, Snapr or email. Check out an example of footage captured using the app on YouTube.

“iSupr8 was born out the current interest in the mobile market for retro photo apps – but there are not many video ones out there yet. So this in combination with my passion for old film formats and the moving image medium is what created the idea for iSupr8,” said Klas.

Klas has been contracting to MEA Mobile, a company that develops new iPhone applications, as a Commercial Director and Lead Designer for the past year.

He also runs a production company called Whenua Pamamao Films (Faraway Land Films) with business partner and fellow Wintec graduate Ryan Lind.

“Whenua focuses on viral content and commercial video productions as well as short film projects...when we have the time and money,” said Klas.

“When we started out we saw a great hunger in the market for high quality work by people schooled in storytelling. All time based visual communication requires an understanding of screen language and storytelling, as well as a technical understanding of the equipment you’re using. The broad cinematic schooling at Wintec’s School of Media Arts Moving Image department provided us with this.”
