CELEBRATING ADULT LEARNERS

To coincide with Adult Learners’ Week, Wintec has awarded three $1000 scholarships to students aged 25 and over studying at Wintec.

Mother-of-three Lynette Tosse is studying a Bachelor Of Education at Wintec, is a director of a family owned timber company and also finds time to lead the waiata song group at Te Pahu Primary School and be a member of the Apron Strings Ukulele Group.

Adult Learner Award nominator said: “Lynette is a high functioning student who always contributes enthusiastically in class. Her passion and enthusiasm for early childhood education is obvious and she passes this enthusiasm onto her peers and colleagues in early childhood settings.”

After working as a surveyor for 30 years, Noel Sanderson is now studying a Bachelor of Information Technology at Wintec and is his class representative and a peer tutor.

Adult Learner Award nominator said: “Noel applies his professional work ethic to everything he does. He spends at least twice as many hours at home studying as he does in lectures or labs. He is generous with his time and will help anyone (even outside his own course) where he can.”

Mother-of-two Tawera Trinder is studying the Certificate in Introduction Studies (Health) at Wintec.

Adult Learner Award nominator said: “Tawera has shown a great passion towards her study succeeding in whatever she puts her mind to. She is a valuable asset to her class. Her positivity and interest in learning is contagious and has contributed to her formation of a very focused and diligent stream of students.” 

  With 50 per cent of its students classified as adult learners, Wintec is an active supporter of Adult Learners’ Week which runs from October 31 to November 6.
