Wintec graduate returns home for Bank of China job

Wintec graduate Mandy Jiang has beaten 300,000 applicants to land a job at one of the world’s top banks.

The 22-year-old will start work at the Bank of China in two weeks’ time in her home city of Jinan in North China. Her position will be assigned during the training period.

The bank’s selection process narrowed 300,000 applicants down to 10,000. It involved a recruitment exam as well as individual and group interviews.

Mandy was selected over applicants with Masters degrees from top Chinese universities.

Miss Jiang did a Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in marketing at Wintec. She is midway through her Masters at Waikato University.

She thinks her time in New Zealand contributed to her success. The Bank of China does a lot of international business and wants people with overseas experience.

She went to the recruitment exam for experience.

“I didn’t think I would pass the exam… I thought I’d go back and finish my Masters degree but this changed my life.”

She says she might return to New Zealand one day to complete her study.

“I still have a dream in New Zealand but some things such as family make me want to go back to China.”
