Wintec Graduates Land Top Jobs in Beijing

Two of Wintec’s business graduates will return home to Beijing later this month after being offered jobs at a multi-national corporation.
Yangshan Ruan and Ya He, who both completed a Bachelor of Business Studies earlier this year, have beaten hundreds of other applicants to gain positions at international accounting firm Ernst & Young.
Ya, who completed a double major in professional accounting and management, and Yangshan, who completed a major in professional accounting, landed their positions at Ernst & Young by filling out an application through the Ernst & Young website. They were then asked to fly to Beijing to sit an English test and have an interview.
They both have starting positions as staff accountants and Yangshan said the first year will mostly be auditing work.
Yangshan and Ya moved to New Zealand after their private schools set them up in an English programme while they were in high school. Ya said they chose New Zealand because “it is a nice, quiet place and has a good learning environment”.
When asked about why they chose to live in Hamilton, rather than one of the bigger cities such as Auckland or Christchurch, Yangshan said the rent was cheaper and there was less traffic.
They chose to study at Wintec as it offered the courses they both wanted to study, and they were impressed by the Wintec website.
“Tutors are very helpful at Wintec. They were always there to make sure we understood what is talked about in class and to offer help if we need it,” said Ya.
They also both agreed that, while the learning culture here in New Zealand is quite different to China, they enjoyed participating in group work and practical exercises.
“It helped us to get a better understanding of both the language and the culture here in New Zealand,” said Yangshan.
While excited to start work, the students are sad to be leaving New Zealand.
“We have been here for a long time now, so on one hand it will be nice to return to Beijing because it is our home town, but on the other hand we consider New Zealand our home too,” said Ya.
The Bachelor of Business Studies is a full time or part time course and runs over three or four years, depending on the major chosen. It is offered at Wintec’s Hamilton City campus and students can choose to specialise in the areas of accounting, marketing or management. Applications for next year’s intake close 20 February, 2011.
