Wiki Art blends art and media

Wintec graduates are combining artistic forces to bring a fresh and dynamic art event aimed at experimenting, exploring and experiencing new art media to Hamilton.
Wiki Art is a temporary art event comprising five different exhibitions designed to help people appreciate and enjoy art – regardless of their background.
Media Arts graduate Ayesha Green, 22, is the organiser of Wiki Art and is excited about exploring art forms that aren’t readily or widely available to the general public or even art public.
“We are trying to create more awareness for different types of art so they become mainstream and more acceptable in communities,” Ayesha said.
The exhibitions include painting, performance, video installation, installation and poetry.
Tiffany Alderman, 22, is submitting a couple of pieces for the painting exhibition in what is her first public exhibition after graduating with a Bachelor of Media Arts.
“I want art to be for everybody and would like somebody who is viewing my art to not necessarily understand it but enjoy it,” Tiffany said.
She is looking forward to people seeing her artwork but doesn’t mind how they choose to interpret her pieces.
“I feel art is quite a restricted area these days. I want people to feel passionate about art, because at the end of the day it’s there to be enjoyed,” Tiffany said.
Wiki Art is funded by the Creative Communities Scheme which supports and encourages local communities to create opportunities for participating in arts activities and events.
The event runs from Friday July 30th until Saturday August 14th at Wiki Art Gallery at 557 Victoria Street.
