Four of Wintec’s motorsport students have been chosen to get an inside look at some of the world’s best V8 Supercar crews and gain some practical mechanical experience working alongside the Suzuki Swift race team - one of the ITM400’s support categories.
Media Arts students are also involved in this major sporting event. Six journalism students will be placed with high profile media including the Waikato Times, The Radio Network and TV3. As well as getting an in-depth understanding of how each media outlet operates, the journalism students will be writing articles on the ITM400.
A group of photography students will accompany professional photographers throughout the three day event, taking photos of action on and off the track and six of our event management students will assist the ITM400 event team prior to and during the ITM400.
In an exciting new off-track entertainment event for the ITM400, a fashion show is being planned with Wintec design students playing an instrumental role. Last year the second year design students each created an outfit that Barbie (who recently turned 50) might wear to the V8 Supercar event. These specially designed garments will be worn by the ITM400 grid girls who will model each look on the catwalk in two fashion shows - one on Saturday and the second on Sunday.
All of these lucky students are on the path to gaining real qualifications with real experience for real jobs.
This is the second year Wintec has partnered with the ITM400, but the first time students will be directly involved in this significant Hamilton event.
Wintec will have a site in the main merchandise area where visitors can take a blast around the Bathhurst track in the V8 simulators.
The V8 Supercar street race runs from April 16-18.
