State-of-the-art hairdressing and beauty facilities

Wintec’s Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy is moving to the city campus’s recently refurbished historical building on the corner of Anglesea and Nisbet streets at the end of the month.
The purpose-built facility, located on the building’s first and second floors, incorporates training areas and retail space where Wintec’s hairdressing and beauty students will treat customers. Named Urban Trends, there will be three state-of-the-art hairdressing salons and a new beauty spa wing with a luxurious Vichy Spa unit.
Sara Refoy, Wintec’s Head of School for International Tourism, Hospitality and Events says: “The new salons and beauty spa will bring commercial reality to our training environment, using the latest trends and equipment used in the hairdressing and beauty therapy industry.
“There will be more opportunities for students to work with clients which assists students to develop confidence in their social interaction, customer service and retail sales skills.”
The relocation of Wintec’s Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy to Wintec’s city campus has additional benefits for students and staff, being closer to campus services.
The upmarket training environment will also be appreciated by industry training organisations, and hairdressing and beauty therapy suppliers who regularly use Wintec’s current facility in Centreplace for training, assessment, information seminars and workshops.
The larger premises will accommodate an increase in student numbers. There are currently more than 120 fulltime students studying hairdressing and beauty at Wintec.
The Centreplace salon and spa will close on August 13 and reopen as Urban Trends in the new location on August 30. It will likely extend its opening hours to reflect industry standards.
When it opens in early September, the building will house a business hub with the Waikato Chamber of Commerce and Opportunity Hamilton having their offices based there, as well as a large events space called The Atrium. A multi-storey car-park is being built next door to provide parking for students, staff and visitors.
