Female Sparkys Win Engineering Scholarships

Wintec Bachelor of Engineering Technology students Kendra Butler and Rebecca Gowing have been awarded engineering scholarships worth $2,500 each.

The Perry Foundation scholarships were presented by sponsorship chairman Barry Coombes at a special afternoon tea also attended by Wintec’s chief executive Mark Flowers.

Kendra and Rebecca both completed a National Certificate in Electrical Engineering at Wintec so are qualified electricians who are now in their first year studying a three year Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree.

Wintec’s head of Primary and Science Industries, Rosemary Wyborn, says Kendra and Rebecca were unanimously selected as the Perry Foundation engineering scholarship recipients.

“They demonstrated friendly, open-minded and committed attitudes in their studies and both were recognised for their contribution to the workplace during their apprenticeships. Furthermore, their qualities match those of the Perry Foundation.”

Rebecca said she was very surprised and pretty chuffed to have been chosen. “It’s encouraging that Wintec and the Perry Foundation have seen our potential.”

Kendra agrees saying: “It’s great that our work has been recognised. The scholarship means a lot as we’ll have less financial stress while studying.”

Once they complete their degrees, Kendra hopes to work as a project engineer and Rebecca would like to get into electrical project management.
