Sandra Mu

Photography pathway

Bachelor of Media Arts graduate Sandra Mu is a photographer for Getty Images, an international news, sport and entertainment agency. At the time of writing, Sandra was in Beijing covering the 2008 Olympic Games with a Getty Images Team of around 80 people, and says it is a great experience. "Going to events like this is the pinnacle of a sports photographer's career."

The Media Arts degree at Wintec initially stood out for Sandra, as it presented a variety of disciplines which allowed her to study photography as a major while also extending her interests in other areas like moving image, painting and graphics. She also appreciated the chance to study extended options such as Business Studies, which gave her a good grounding in the subject. "The Media Arts degree as a whole is a well rounded package to prepare one for the future and help with the decision making of your career. The hands-on approach to teaching makes it fun and enjoyable."

Sandra has been working as a professional photographer for the last 9 years, mainly with sports, but also news and entertainment. Events she has covered include the Rugby World Cup, Netball World Championships, Commonwealth Games, the Fiji elections, the funeral of Dame Te Ātairangikaahu, the 2008 Australian Open and three Olympic Games.
