Rachel Cooper

Moving Image Pathway

I graduated from Wintec with a Bachelor of Media Arts Degree majoring in Moving Image.

I had a love for all creative media growing up whether it be painting, photography, film, or journalism. I felt very fortunate to come across such an institute that could nurture and offer me experience in all these mediums. After starting in communication doing journalism I then ventured into Moving Image as my chosen major in my second year and enjoyed the practical aspects of the papers, it was here that I learnt to edit, screenwrite, and learn the aspects of directing a short film. Media Arts encouraged me to produce original pieces for my assignments, and I remember great viewing sessions in the projector room - interesting and amusing.

Since graduating I went straight into work at Republic Films which took me on after completing an Internship paper I did at Wintec. From here I progressed from in-house runner to production assistant and editor. I was able to prove that I had skills in both editing and organization therefore taking on the role of producing the directors' show reels and working as a runner/PA on their Television Commercials.

Since leaving Republic to take on the freelance world I now work for 7 Production Houses running, production assisting and cast co-ordinating on TV Commercials and Music Videos. I have, since Wintec, worked on over 50 TVC's and a few Music Videos and am currently Freelancing and working in-house at Automatic Films. With the diverse skills I learnt at Wintec I can now edit, photoshop, and use my organization skills in the production of Television Commercials. From here I plan to travel overseas and gain more experience in the industry and get closer to my goal of becoming a Producer.
