SPARK International Festival of Media, Arts and Design
SPARK International Festival of Media, Arts and Design is a five day event happening in August with speakers presenting on subject areas from contemporary art, design, writing, acting, photography, publishing, filmmaking and music, to panel discussions with established creative practitioners. Yak FM - Hamilton's student radio station
Yak FM is Wintec's campus-based student radio station that acts as a social link between students, the campus and local musicians, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The station started in 2004 and has grown ever since, now operating as a teaching tool in the NZQA-accredited Certificate in Radio Broadcasting.

Ramp Gallery
Ramp Gallery was established in 1997 as a contemporary art space in the Department of Media Arts at the Waikato Institute of Technology (then Waikato Polytechnic). Ramp seeks to provide a venue for innovative work and foster critical discussion about contemporary art.
Through Ramp, Wintec students regularly have the opportunity to engage with leading contemporary artists.
They can also volunteer in the gallery in a variety of roles, gaining valuable work experience in the area. Visit the Ramp Gallery Website |

Cut! National High Schools Short Video Competition
Cut! is an annual filmmaking competition for high school students, run by Wintec, now in its 8th year. Entrants create a short film between 4 - 6 minutes and compete for a range of exciting prizes, including iMac computers, a Wintec scholarship, and Ricoh digital cameras. Follow Cut! on Facebook. |
