Personal Statement

Dr. Suzette Major has held academic appointments for over 12 years including a senior lectureship with the Department of Screen & Media Studies, University of Waikato, and teaching fellowships with Victoria University in Wellington and Deakin University in Melbourne. Her teaching and research activities are centered on the creative industries, arts marketing, and New Zealand film. With a background in management, Suzette is interested in the relationship, connections and tensions between commerce and culture, as well as career management and development in the arts. Suzette has published work on film marketing, arts marketing and creative industries, and has been involved in range of local and international research projects. She sits on the Hamilton Community Arts Council, and is often invited to speak publicly on the New Zealand arts industry.

Suzette is also the cofounder and company director of Arts.Biz™ Ltd. - a company that offers workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and consulting services for artists interested in establishing a career in the creative industries. In 2008, Suzette also established Artemiz Ltd. - a company that offers research and development services in the creative industries. As both an academic and businesswoman, Suzette is passionate about the arts, and assisting creative practitioners to further their creative pursuits.
