Georgie Gaddum

Design Lecturer

Georgie enjoys teaching advertising as it involves working with students from a variety of disciplines, with each applying a different way of thinking. "It's really fun to see the students bring their own strengths to the group assignments."

"I get such a thrill out of helping anyone who wants to learn how to explore their own strengths and weaknesses to realise their own style of being creative. Everyone has it, it's just working out which language you need to speak to every individual, in order for them to understand you and apply it."

Industry experience and achievements

• Taught at Wellington Polytechnic (Weltec) for three years before heading overseas for a year, and has now taught at Wintec for two years.
• Established connections to different businesses within my industry, such as Social-fabric which is an advertising and branding company who just started in Auckland.
• Working on a collaborative project, based off an idea of everyday stewardess stories working on the super yachts.
• Participated in a few exhibitions such as the collaborative Draw Inc exhibition, a Ramp photography exhibition and the Fieldays Exhibitor.
• Georgie is an independent jewellery designer, currently supplying to various design stores and fashion labels throughout New Zealand, and trying to break into Australia. "I go by the name Midget Design, so keep an eye out!"

Research and Scholarly Activity

• Frequently attends design conferences, such as the We Can Create Conference in Auckland.
• Spoke at Pecha Kucha this year talking about my jewellery designing and received really good feedback and responses.
• Took part in the Fieldays Exhibitor project and supervised four interns from third year.
• Has been working on improving and updating the Certificate in Media Arts (Graphic Design) and the Advertising Moodle site
• Taught a group of environmentalists how to create their own newsletters at a workshop over two evenings
