Personal Statement

I believe the ability to clearly communicate your ideas and experiences is an essential skill in all the domains of Media Arts. Communication takes many forms, has many purposes and exists in a variety of contexts. As well as teaching communication skills, I find it exciting to work with students to examine ideas about the media and develop ways to analyse how they engage with it.
While media technologies and approaches constantly develop and change, the essential skills of good communication remain constant, and important.

Work Experience

Cate works as an academic staff member in the communication unit of the School of Media Arts and is the Programme Manager for the Certificate in Media Arts.
A former teacher of English and Drama, she particularly enjoys seeing the certificate students discover and develop their skills for tertiary study. While teaching she wrote extensively for student drama productions and directed many musicals and plays. Cate regularly reviews DVDs for the Waikato Times and also contributes theatre reviews and columns on occasion.
