Kākano Rua: Bicultural Practice Research Forum

Bicultural/Treaty based practice and research is a unique field of enquiry in Aotearoa New Zealand which is gaining increasing international recognition. ‘Kākano Rua’ refers to two seeds growing beside each other. Both Māori and non-Māori practitioners and clients are benefitting from a growing affirmation of indigenous models of health and wellbeing, and the growing focus on culturally safe practitioners.
Wintec is delighted to invite professional practitioners, social services staff, and cultural workers from the Waikato community to the presentation of 5 research papers reporting on significant Waikato- based research.
These papers have direct relevance to the day to day practice of bicultural work in social service agencies, the weaving of indigenous models of health and wellbeing into practice, and the positioning of Māori and non-Māori in social services. The researchers explore effective educational approaches to these key issues, and consider recent graduates’ preparedness for bicultural practice in New Zealand social services.
