Wintec is proud to be selected to be part of the Youth Guarantee scheme, and has 120 places for eligible students in 2010. Youth Guarantee is aimed at young people who are ready to move beyond school, but who still want to study and learn practical skills. It provides them with an opportunity to participate in a
range of vocational programmes, free of charge, at Wintec.

Who is eligible?

• Students must be NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents
• Students must be 16-17 years old, and have achieved NCEA Level 1 or less
• Students must not turn 18 within three months of starting studying under the Youth Guarantee
• Students must have completed Year 11
• Students can't have studied at Tertiary Institution before (STAR, GATEWAY not included)
• They must be prepared to study full-time for 1 year

What programmes are available?

Wintec has 8 programmes, each of one year's duration, which have been selected for the Youth Guarantee. These programmes have to be between Levels 1 to 3.

• Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 2)
• Certificate in Catering (Level 3)
• National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 2)
• Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3)
• Certificate in Electrical Supply (Level 2)
• Certificate in Rural Technology (Level 3)
• Certificate in Engineering and Automotive Trades (Level 2) (available only in Otorohanga)
• Certificate in Introduction to Trades (Level 2)

All Youth Guarantee programmes have literacy and numeracy embedded in their delivery and a range of student support services will be available. Students who are part of the Youth Guarantee scheme will study alongside other mainstream students.

Fees

Tuition is fee free for students studying on the Youth Guarantee scheme.

Loans and Allowances

Because courses are free, students are not eligible for a student loan. Students can apply for a student allowance, if they meet the eligibility requirements.

Student Services

As part of their course, each student will complete an Individual Learning Plan and receive career planning advice and support. Student Mentors will also work with each Youth Guarantee class.

How are Youth Guarantee places allocated?

Applications will be assessed against the programme entry criteria. Due to the limited number of places available, eligible applications will be accepted across all programmes on a first come, first served basis.
