This programme is designed to extend and deepen professional knowledge and skills in the fields of health and social practice which include: occupational therapy, nursing, midwifery, social work, counselling and human services. It will offer learning opportunities designed to inform your practice and develop valued knowledge in Treaty based practice. You will learn and grow professionally while undertaking interactive and experiential-based education.
The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Supervision provides a supervision qualification to those practitioners from both health and social services who wish to work in this area of independent and specialised practice. It will extend your existing qualifications and will allow higher level professional development that is inter-disciplinary. It is relevant to practitioners from a wide range of practice contexts and the resulting inter-disciplinary interaction of health and social services practitioners will enhance and strengthen service delivery in the region.
An interdisciplinary context will enable graduates to extend their capacity for critical and professional/clinical reasoning for specialist practice, leadership, management and supervision in complex professional environments.
This programme is available to international students from 2013 who may be overseas qualified health or social services practitioners but does not be New Zealand registered.
This programme will not lead to New Zealand Health or Social Service Professional Registration.

Career Opportunities
The Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Supervision provides you with greater capacity to work as a Professional Supervisor, or Private Practitioner, either in your current field, or within specialised fields of practice.
You can pathway into the Postgraduate Diploma in Health or Social Practice (Professional Supervision) which provides a programme of learning to develop advanced knowledge and skills for supervision, management, researcher or educator roles.
Entry Criteria
- An undergraduate degree in Health or Social Practice, or related discipline.
- Candidates who do not hold these qualifications can submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate best practice in Health and Social Practice.
- Candidates whose first language is neither English nor Māori are required to have a score of 7.0 or better in all bands of the IELTS, or equivalent and will be required to demonstrate through a portfolio the likelihood of being able to successfully achieve the programme learning outcomes.
- All candidates will be required to complete a professional disclosure form and supply the names and contact details of two professional referees.
- There may be the requirement to attend an individual interview.
About the Faculty
The Postgraduate Office at Wintec has been created to support postgraduate students in their studies and research by providing dedicated resources and advice. Wintec also has a dedicated Research Office which is the hub of research at Wintec and caters to all researchers, both staff and students.
