Programme Content
You will study a range of subjects including occupational health and safety, general agriculture and farming skills, agricultural vehicles and machinery, fencing, pest control, chainsaw operation and dairy, cattle, sheep and deer farming.
This programme incorporates the Certificate in Rural Skills (Level 3) and on completion you may apply to NZQA for (with the appropriate options) the National Certificate in Agriculture (Introductory Skills) (Level 2), National Certificate in Dairy Farming (Milking) (Level 3) and the National Certificate in Agriculture (Animal Feeding and Pastures) (Level 3).
Career Opportunities
The Certificate in Rural Technology (Level 3) may lead to a career in the rural sector, including dairy, sheep and deer farming.
There are also opportunities for you to pursue careers in rural contract services such as fencing, milking and tractor driving.
Entry Criteria
Open entry, although candidates must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success.
Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 5.5, with a minimum of 5.0 in the written band.
To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must be physically able to carry out the practical components of the programme.
