The Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2) combines a broad foundation of electricity supply, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering skills to provide you with a sound introduction to these industries.
As a pre-trade qualification it is an ideal first step, as at the completion of the programme you will be well placed to continue on to complete an apprenticeship and a relevant national qualification.
Programme Content
The Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2) is delivered through a combination of delivery methods such as, face-to-face, practical workshops, distance learning and selfdirected study.
There are both compulsory and elective modules that you will study.
The core compulsory standards include the required unit standards for the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2), electrical strand, and for the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 2).
On completion of the core modules and one elective strand you will have completed a further strand in the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2).
Each of the National Certificates is a pretrade qualification and provides credits towards the relevant Level 4 National Certificate.
Career Opportunities
The Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2) may lead to employment as an apprentice in the electricity industry, such as an Electrician, Electrical Technician, Linesman, Electrical Fitter, Electricity Supply Technician, Electronic Security Installer, and Instrumentation and Control Technician.
You may also wish to continue onto further study such as the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Electrical) (Level 3) with strands in Electricity Supply Electrician, Electrical Fitter, and Electrical Technician, and the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Level 3). The Certificate also has unit standards in common with the National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 2).
Entry Criteria
Open entry, although candidates must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success.
Preference will be given to students who have achieved 10 credits at NCEA Level 1 in Mathematics and / or Physics, or equivalent.
Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.0 in the written band.
To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must be physically able to carry out the practical components of the programme.
