<p>Do you want to teach young children? Or are you currently unqualified and working in an early childhood setting? If so, then Wintec&rsquo;s Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) is designed just for you.</p>
<p>This degree offers you the opportunity to learn the theoretical knowledge of early childhood teaching as well as undertake field-based education. Field-based education enables you to regularly put your classroom learning into practice. This will result in you graduating with excellent knowledge and skills for teaching in early childhood settings.</p>
<p>Classes are one day and one evening per week and a minimum of 12 hours per week in a licensed and chartered early childhood education service, as well as self-directed learning.</p>
<p>This programme is approved by NZQA and the New Zealand Teachers Council, and is studied over three years or five years part-time.</p>

 <li>Being committed members of the profession</li></ul>
<p>Professional Leadership and Advocacy</p>
<ul>
 <li>Application of effective leadership strategies</li>
 <li>Strategies to advocate for children, families, society and the teaching profession</li>
 </ul>
<p>You will also study optional content appropriate for an early childhood teacher.</p>

<h2>Career Opportunities</h2>
<p>The Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) may lead to employment as an Early Childhood Teacher in Childcare, Playcentre, Kindergarten and other early childhood settings. There is also the opportunity to become part of the wider teaching community in roles such as an Associate Teacher or Mentor. You may also choose to continue onto further study at postgraduate level.</p>
<h2> Entry Criteria</h2>
<ul>
 <li>60 credits at NCEA level 2 across four subjects including a Language Rich subject<em>^</em> and a minimum of 14 credits at level 1 in Mathematics, or equivalent or</li>
 <li>42 credits at NCEA level 3 including a Language Rich subject<em>^</em> and a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 in each of two subjects, and a further 14 credits at level 3 from no more than two additional subjects, or equivalent.</li>
 </ul>
<p><em>^ History, Classics, Media Studies or English</em></p>
<p>Candidates are required to be working (paid or voluntarily) for at least 12 hours per week in a licensed and chartered early childhood service by the start of the programme.</p>
<p>Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 7.0 overall. </p>
<p>In order to comply with Teaching Council of New Zealand requirements,  candidates will be required to demonstrate an IELTS requirement of 7.0 in each band, or equivalent, prior to registration.</p>
<p>To register as an early childhood teacher candidates must have New Zealand permanent residency or citizenship. Candidates are also required to provide two confidential referee reports (on the Wintec form) (in addition one from your school Principal if still at school), a current C.V. and a personal statement with their application.</p>
<p>Candidates are required to indicate whether they have been convicted of a criminal offence as some types of criminal conviction may limit the ability to secure practicum placements and therefore complete the programme and / or gain registration as a teacher.</p>
<p>Special admission may be granted to candidates aged 20 years or over who do not meet the specified entry requirements. These candidates are required to demonstrate an ability to successfully complete the programme through a process of an interview and assessment.</p>
