You can now study for the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in the Waikato with Wintec and Otago Polytechnic. The programme will be delivered at Wintec, on the Rotokauri and Hamilton City Campuses, by Otago Polytechnic tutors. This collaborative approach means you can work towards your Occupational Therapy degree closer to home.
Programme Content
The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy is designed to prepare occupational therapists for practice in the 21st Century New Zealand context.
You will study occupational therapy theory on campus, with the practice components of the programme being applied during field work placements, which are incorporated throughout the three years of the programme.
Career Opportunities
This qualification leads to registration to practise as an occupational therapist in New Zealand, and is recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
Entry Criteria
- 42 NCEA credits at Level 3 or higher including:
- Minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in each of two approved subjects and 14 further credits at Level 3 or higher in no more than two additional approved subjects
- Minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher in English and/or Te Reo Māori (4 credits in Reading and 4 credits in Writing)
- Minimum of 13 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the NQF.
- OR 16 points maximum across four best subjects in Sixth Form Certificate or a minimum of 60 NCEA credits at Level 2 across four subjects
- OR Stage one degree subjects totalling the equivalent of one third of a full-time year in a single year
- OR a qualification at Level 4 on the NQF and/or equivalent industry or professional experience.
All applicants must also submit a one page written report demonstrating a good understanding of occupational therapy practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Additional Information
A satisfactory level of physical and emotional health as certified by a general practitioner. Recommendations for suitability from two nominated referees (confidential) are required. A current First Aid Certificate.
