      <p>The Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts) programme is the unique, practical programme for you if you are seeking a career in visual arts and design.</p>
      <h2>Programme Content</h2>
      <p>Your first year of study includes drawing methods, an  investigation of a variety of media, working in two, three and four dimensions,  and the development of research and communication skills. </p>
      <p>In your second and third years,  you will choose to specialise in digital media design, graphic design, moving image,  painting, sculpture or photography.</p>
      <p>Further electives are available from across the Media Arts  programme, regardless of your endorsement of entry. For example, you may wish  to specialise in graphic design, but do a number of advertising electives. The  BMA structure is designed to let you maintain an interest in a number of  disciplines.</p>
      <h2>Career Opportunities</h2>
      <p>The Bachelor of Media Arts may lead to employment as an Art Director, Art Educator, Cinematographer, Designer, Editorial Photographer, Environmental Designer, Exhibition Designer, Film Producer, Filmmaker, Freelance Photographer, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Photojournalist, Presenter (radio and television), Public Artist, Studio Artist or Web Designer.</p>
      <h2>Entry Criteria </h2>
      <ul>
        <li>60 credits at NCEA Level 2 in four subjects, including 12 credits in a Language Rich<em>^</em> subject, or equivalent, <strong>or</strong></li>
        <li>42 credits at NCEA Level 3 including a Language Rich<em>^</em> subject, or equivalent, <strong>or</strong></li>
        <li>A total score of 16 or less in four Sixth Form Certificate subjects including a Language Rich<em>^</em> subject, or equivalent, <strong>or</strong></li>
        <li>University Entrance, or equivalent</li>
      </ul>
      <p><em>^ History, Classics, Media Studies or English</em></p>
      <p>In addition, for admission into the Visual Arts endorsement candidates will:</p>
      <ul>
        <li>Submit a portfolio of work, and</li>
        <li>If shortlisted, may be required to participate in an interview</li>
      </ul>
      <p>Your portfolio of work must include a portfolio of works that forms a cohesive series. From this, we want to understand that you are capable of developing a body of related work, and the way your ideas were investigated and developed. It should contain one of the following:</p>
      <ul>
        <li>Series of drawings</li>
        <li>Series of paintings and their drawings</li>
        <li>Series of sculptures / carvings with drawings</li>
        <li>Series of photographs with drawings (if applicable), proof sheets and work prints</li>
        <li>Graphic or product design projects with briefs and drawings</li>
        <li>Video or film scripts and photographs of storyboards (if bigger than A4)</li>
        <li>Visual narrative sequences (comic strips) and preparatory drawings (photographs only if bigger than A4)</li>
        <li>Note: You may also submit projects on CD (TIFF, Flash or HTML formats) or provide a URL to work hosted on a website. You should still submit a series of printed A4 sheets which show drawings or other forms of developmental process for this work.</li>
      </ul>
      <p>You must include a 400 word essay (approx) analysing your work submitted. You must identify and discuss the successful aspects of each series, and consider where your ideas came from and how you developed them. You should also indicate where you could develop these ideas in future work. We are particularly looking for your ability to engage critically with a wider visual culture, and your understanding of where your work &lsquo;fits&rsquo; in the wide range of art and design practices in the world. This may include art, but you might also refer to movies, magazines, online work, etc.</p>
      <p>Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 6.0 across all bands.</p>
      <p>Special admission may be granted to candidates aged 20 years or over who do not meet the specified entry requirements. These candidates may be required to demonstrate an ability to successfully complete the programme through a process of an interview and / or assessment.</p>

      <h2>Secondary School Students</h2>
      <p>Want to experience visual arts for a day? Talk to your STAR Coordinator or Careers Advisor and do one of the following Wintec Tasters.</p>

        <li>Developing Photoshop Skills (one day)</li>
        <li>Developing Screenwriting Skills (two days)</li>
        <li>Introduction to Editing for Moving Image (two days)</li>
        <li>Introduction to Illustrator (two days)</li>
        <li>Introduction to Life Drawing (two days)</li>
        <li>Short Video Production and Development (one day)</li>
      </ul>
